Birmingham City will be without Jacques Maghoma for the next six weeks after he suffered a quad injury in Tuesday's FA Cup success over Coventry City.

The Championship side needed penalties to overcome the Sky Blues in the replay and whilst Pep Clotet's men secured a fifth round tie with Leicester City, it's a result that came at some cost.

Blues had confirmed earlier today that Josh McEachran had suffered a serious knee injury that will keep him out for nine months and Clotet told the club's Twitter account that Maghoma is also set for a spell on the sidelines.

"We will also be without Jacques Maghoma for 6 weeks after he sustained a quad injury in Tuesday's game."

That will be a blow for Clotet as he has used the winger regularly when he has been available this season, with Maghoma featuring in 18 Championship fixtures so far.

However, it is an area of the pitch they are well-stocked in. Jeremie Bela, Jefferson Montero and Jude Bellingham are options for the boss, whilst Danny Crowley and Kerim Mrabti will be available for selection before Maghoma returns.

The verdict

This will be hugely frustrating for the player and the club, particularly as it comes after McEachran's news.

But, these things happen and you would say that it's the one position where Blues can probably afford an injury because Clotet has so much cover.

As for Maghoma, he will be gutted by this but he's experienced and has recovered from this type of setback before so he will be aware of how it works.

In the meantime, it's down to those coming into the XI to show they deserve to keep the shirt for when the 32-year-old returns.
