Aitor Karanka is hopeful that Sam Cosgrove will be fit to return to Birmingham City training soon.

The striker joined the Blues at the end of the January transfer window after being hugely impressive during his time with Scottish side Aberdeen.

However his time with the Championship club hasn't got off to the best of starts.

Cosgrove has been limited to just 22 minutes of action for Birmingham City since completing his move, with injuries stopping him from making a mark in the Championship.

But according to Karanka, it seems that the frontman may not be too far away from a return to the first team fold.

As quoted by Birmingham Live, Karanka said: "He is not training with us yet.

"I hope he will join us soon, let’s see if he can start with us and he can join the team as soon as possible.

"The more players of quality we have the better it will be for everybody."

The verdict This is certainly encouraging news for Birmingham City fans. The Blues are struggling this season and it seems like they'll need every bit of quality that they have if they're to pick up some decent results between now and the end of the season. Sam Cosgrove could be crucial to that. The striker promises goals wherever he goes and so the introduction of him back into the first team can only be a good thing. Of course it'll take time to get him back up to speed, but the Blues will be determined to get him firing at the earliest opportunity.
