Exciting Birmingham City prospect Charlie Lakin says he is looking to create memories with the club he grew up supporting, report the Birmingham Mail.

The 19-year-old attacking midfielder made his debut for the Blues in the League Cup earlier this season and was in the stands with his family when the club lifted that very trophy in 2011.

"I went down there with quite a lot of my family. I have spoken to Craig Gardner and said ‘I remember watching you play in that game’. It’s crazy."

"I am hoping to create some memories myself now."

Lakin has since racked up five Championship appearances and has even been trusted to start matches by Garry Monk.

The Blues currently sit 17th in the table after 12 games, with plenty of mixed performances to go with it.

For the most part, Monk's side have played well but have often been unable to finish their chances, with eight draws to their name already.

They will be hoping to build on the momentum and feel-good factor gained from their 3-1 win against Rotherham United before the international break.

The verdict

Lakin has already endeared himself to the Birmingham fans with some positive displays so these stories will only help him further.

There is nothing football supporters love more than a local lad who comes good, so everyone will be wishing Lakin well.

Now, it's down to him to maintain the high standards he has set and to try and establish himself as a regular in the team.
