Birmingham City got back to winning ways in the Championship last Friday against Middlesbrough in what turned out to be an enthralling affair at St Andrew's.

Having entered the clash with a point to prove following defeats to Wigan Athletic and Derby County, the Blues made a lively start as Fran Villalba was denied by a fantastic save from goalkeeper Darren Randolph.

The winger then gave Pep Clotet's side the lead in the 33rd minute as he stroked home following neat work from Maxime Colin.

After Daniel Ayala levelled up proceedings in the closing stages of the clash, Birmingham academy graduate Odin Bailey headed home the winner.

Football League World fan pundit Alex Young has insisted that Bailey should be playing more often for the Blues after impressing as a substitute against Middlesbrough.

"There is no doubt that Bailey can bring something different to the table for Birmingham this season.

"In a side that lack pace in the final third, he can add this threat whereas the likes of Lukas Jutkiewicz and Alvaro Gimenez offer other strengths.

"He has certainly started his senior career in rich form and he deserves more minutes."

Although Bailey made a telling impact on Friday, Young has suggested that the 19-year-old is not yet ready to be a regular starter at St Andrew's.

"Perhaps paired with Jutkiewicz we could see and effective striker partnership, with the 30-year-old winning balls in the air and Bailey there to pounce on second balls, using his pace to get in behind opposition defences.

"It's certainly a strategy that the Blues can build toward, and with a shift in the team's play-style to a more possession-based game, Bailey is certain to feature more and more as the season progresses.

"League starts may be a big ask at this point, but there can be no doubt that Bailey will have set his sights on fighting his way into that starting eleven.

The Birmingham fan pundit believes that Bailey can be a big part of the club's plans for the future.

"The team is undergoing a youthful revolution.

"With the emergence of Jude Bellingham and the strong performances from Villalba, Ivan Sunjic and Dan Crowley, it is clear that Birmingham are building a competitive squad that will improve game-by-game.

"And with Bailey, there is no reason why he can't be a big part of that."
