Birmingham City winger Viv Solomon-Otabor's decision to turn down a new deal at St. Andrews is not a big concern for the club, according to Football League World's Birmingham City regular punter Alex Young.

The 23-year-old was sent out on loan to League One Portsmouth during the January transfer window but has decided to leave the club this summer when his contract expires, report All Nigeria Soccer.

But Young is not concerned by the prospect of the once-promising youngster leaving the club.

"The likes of Jota, Maghoma and Mrabti can offer more at Championship level, with the procurement of another proven, talented winger surely at the top of Monk's shopping list," he told Football League World.

"Conor Mahoney had a strong finish to the season, and I'm sure Blues will be pursuing a deal for the 22-year-old."

He may have only scored twice in 11 appearances across his time with Birmingham and Pompey, but would it not be worth offering Solomon-Otabor a slightly improved deal?

Well, not according to Young.

With the Blues becoming the first team to be punished for breaking Financial Fair Play rules last season, he says it is simply not worth the risk that could come with upping the offer.

"The youngster is clearly not in the manager's first team plans," he said.

"It does not make sense, then, to offer a more lucrative deal when money would be better spent trying to improve the first eleven."

So, with it seeming like a matter of time until he is released as a free agent, where next for the winger?

"An obvious destination for the winger would be League One," according to Young.

"It's clear that the young player is after more minutes on the pitch, and I'm sure there are a few League One teams that would give him that chance."
