Despite being with Crystal Palace, Jack Butland made just nine appearances in the Premier League this season and kept one clean sheet.

He’s not the first choice goalkeeper at Palace and it looks highly unlikely that he would get regular game time in the top flight again, especially at 29-years-old.

It’s been reported that Birmingham City are interested in their former player who started his career with the Blues.

This would be a brilliant signing for Lee Bowyer’s side who are in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer.

However, if they want to secure his services, they will have to battle both Rangers and Bournemouth to get his signature according to The Sun.

Butland remains under contract at Selhurst Park for another year so any move for the player will involve a bid being made.

However, you can’t imagine Palace will make it too hard for him to depart given he isn’t a feature in future plans at the club.

Whether Birmingham will get him due to his emotional connection with the club is yet to be seen although he will be pleased to have offers from higher up too.

The Verdict:

If Birmingham could get the player this summer that would be a great bit of business and considering they’d be offering him regular game time, that could be a convincing factor.

However, you can’t ignore the threat a move to Rangers or Bournemouth pose to the Blues with both teams in higher divisions.

Furthermore, with Bournemouth a newly promoted side, there’s a fair chance he’ll be given a good opportunity there to play.

That being said, neither Rangers or Bournemouth have made an official move for the player yet which could therefore mean they’re still not 100% on whether to make the move.
