Birmingham City are edging nearer to completing a deal to sign Denmark under-21 international Kristian Pedersen, according to a report in the Birmingham Mail.

The 21-year-old has been an impressive figure this season at German club Union Berlin, and has already reportedly been seen looking around St Andrews last week.

Pedersen, who would become manager Garry Monk's first signing since taking over at the Blues towards the end of last season, would be a welcome additon to the ranks for the Blues, who once again struggled against relegation last season before Monk guided them to safety.

A regular for both Berlin and his country at under-21 level, Pedersen, who predominantly plays as a left back, has become a key figure over the past couple of seasons, and appears ready to sieze his chance at getting a move into the English game.

Fellow Championship club Leeds United are also believed to have registered an interest in Pedersen, but it looks like Monk and the Blues will indeed complete the signing of the Dane in the coming weeks.

Pedersen has made in excess of 50 appearances for Berlin since making his move to the club back in 2016.
