Sky Bet Championship side Birmingham City are in advanced talks with striker Lukas Jutkiewicz over a new deal at the club, according to reports from Football Insider.

The 30-year-old was one of the West Midlands side's most important players last season, forming a lethal strike partnership with Che Adams up top for Garry Monk's side.

The towering forward scored 14 goals for Blues in all competitions, and was beneficial alongside Adams too, adding a further 10 assists up front due to his physical prowess and aerial presence.

Following the reported £15m departure of Adams to Southampton, it is vitally important that Pep Clotet keeps hold of his other talented forward, with Jutkiewicz now entering the final year of his contract at the club.

But reports from Football Insider claim that Birmingham are in advanced talks with Jutkiewicz over a new deal at St. Andrew's, with the club keen to tie him down to a new long-term contract.

It has been a pretty wild off-season for Blues, who have parted company with Garry Monk and have his former assistant in charge for the 2019/20 season.

They kick off their Championship campaign with a trip to Brentford in less than a fortnight.

The Verdict

This would be a massive boost for Birmingham fans if Jutkiewicz were to put pen to paper, and I can't see any reason why he wouldn't either.

He is playing his best football at St. Andrew's - he has never really been prolific in his career, but last season he really stood out alongside Che Adams.

He adds a different dimension to their attack, scoring plenty of goals but producing loads of assists too, and in my view, he is one of the most underrated strikers in the division.

Tying him down to a new deal will be massive news.
