Birmingham City duo Jonathan Spector and Nick Townsend have both secured new contracts with the Sky Bet Championship club, reports the Blues’ official website.
USA international Spector has had an in and out season for the Blues this year but was superb when he came in for the injured Michael Morrison and after those performances, the versatile player has managed to earn a new two year deal.
Spector can play at centre back, right back and in midfield and he has been used in all three of those positions during his time at Blues, but he has been most impressive during his time at centre back.
The experience of the States star will be vital in the next campaign as the club and management set their sights on getting into the playoffs.
Goalkeeper Nick Townsend has barely featured for the West Midlands side during his time with the club but manager Gary Rowett has seen enough potential in him to offer him a new contract.
It was vital that Birmingham secured the services of Townsend after they let long serving keeper Colin Doyle go earlier this month.
The 20-year-old has been with the Blues since the age of 12 and like Spector, he has signed a new two year deal with the option of a further year.
