Birmingham City have confirmed that they have accepted the nine-point deduction handed to them by the EFL after they were in breach of the Profitability and Sustainability Rules.

The issue had been hanging over Blues all season until a decision was finally made in March.

As a result, Garry Monk's men went from play-off hopefuls to the middle of a relegation battle, although four points from their past two games have eased any concerns about going down.

However, Blues still had a chance to appeal the decision if they felt it was excessive or unwarranted but they confirmed on their official site that they wouldn't be doing that.

"The Club can confirm it will not be appealing the nine-point deduction as a result of a breach in the Profitability and Sustainability Rules in the period 2015/16 - 2017/18."

They also stated they would be respectful to the rules moving forward as they look to avoid a similar punishment down the line.

"The Club policy on transfers, recruitment, infrastructure improvement and such like will be clear, efficient and effective with the aim of maximising value on the back of best practice."

The Verdict

This should finally put this matter to bed and you have to say Blues fans will be delighted with that as it's dragged on for so long.

You can understand why they haven't contested the ban as it shouldn't really impact them this season.

This will allow them to start the next campaign without any problems and Monk should also be given more freedom to make his mark on the squad after overachieving with this current crop.
