Birmingham City boss Steve Cotterill may only have just taken over at St. Andrew's but he has already been linked with several players when the January window opens, with Louis Moult the latest. The Blues boss is surely going to want to strengthen the squad with his own signings when he has the chance.

The Birmingham Mail say that reports elsewhere have suggested Mortherwell striker Moult is a target for the club. The 25-year old has been in fine form for 'Well this season, scoring nine goals in 14 games, after hitting 36 in his past two seasons. What's more, his contract expires at the end of the season which means the Scottish club will have to cash in on him in January if they're to get a fee.

However, it won't be straightforward for Blues, as Glasgow giants Rangers have also been credited with an interest along with Preston, Millwall and Hibs. Clearly, his availability is going to alert a number of clubs in the window. Cotterill opted to use Isaac Vassell up front in his first game in charge, and he impressed with his searing pace. Moult has different qualities and can play well with his back to goal.

The Verdict

Louis Moult is going to highly sought after in January. He is scoring goals for fun in the SPL and a range of finishes too. Many may dismiss the standard of the league, but you can only judge Moult on his performances and they've been great. Birmingham would have strong competition for his signature but they have a chance. It's up to the current strikers involved to deliver between now and January to prove to Cotterill that he doesn't need a new attacking option.
