Birmingham City are facing a 12-point deduction, with the EFL ready to take a tough stance on the club after they broke rules on spending.

It has been a summer of turmoil for the Blues, who were hit with a transfer embargo, which played havoc with Garry Monk’s summer transfer business.

Add to that, the signing of Kristian Pedersen, whilst under that embargo, didn’t sit well with their rivals or the governing body.

Now, a report from the Telegraph has revealed that Birmingham are facing a potential 12-point deduction, with the EFL ready to take a tough stance on the Blues, who are in deep trouble for breaching profitability and sustainability rules.

Birmingham’s hearing is set to be within the next two months, with the report even claiming that the point deduction could come into play before the end of this season, which will deal Monk and his side a real blow.

It hasn’t been a convincing start to the season for the Blues, who headed into the international break without a victory from their first six fixtures.

Monk’s side have drawn on four occasions, leaving them narrowly above the relegation zone with just four points.

The Verdict

This is so worrying for the Blues, who could have their season thrust into turmoil.

Of course, the report from the Telegraph claims Birmingham will contest any sanctions, but the EFL sound serious with their threat.

These are worrying times for the club.
