Birmingham City's appeal against midfielder Maikel Kieftenbeld's sending-off has been successful, the club have confirmed.

The Dutchman was sent off for an off-the-ball incident with Brentford's Neal Maupay in the 1-1 draw at Griffin Park on Tuesday night, where the 28-year old was dismissed in the 65th minute.

But an Independent Regulatory Commission upheld the Club's claim of wrongful dismissal, meaning that the red card shown to Kieftenbeld has been rescinded and he will NOT serve a three-match ban for violent conduct.

Blues defender Harlee Dean had earlier spoken of his dismay at the sending off, and said he "would be embarassed to do what Maupay did."

Blues boss Garry Monk was also sent off after the decision, and will still be charged a fine of £2,000 and also faces a touchline ban ahead of the club's home clash with Rotherham United on Saturday afternoon.

The Verdict

This is great news for Birmingham, Kieftenbeld has been a solid figure this season when called upon, and it seems that justice has been served.

The incident was never a red card, and now Blues can focus on what really matters - three points for the only second time this season on Saturday afternoon, as the West Midlands side face a struggling Rotherham United outfit.
