Aitor Karanka has added to his backroom team with Tony Roberts arriving as the club's goalkeeping coach.

The Spaniard is still new to the job at St. Andrew's and he has been making changes since coming into the role as he looks to progress the club.

Previously, Scott Bevan had stepped up from his role as the keeper coach for the U23 side to work with the senior side but the arrival of Roberts, which was confirmed on the club's official site, means he will revert back to his old position.

Roberts, who played for QPR and Dagenham & Redbridge in his career, joins Blues having picked up a lot of top level experience as a coach over the years.

That includes stints with the R's, Swansea City and Arsenal, whilst he was also part of Chris Coleman's backroom team when he was with the Welsh national team and most recently Hebei China Fortune.

Neil Etheridge is the current number one for Blues, with Andres Prieto on the bench. Karanka's side have conceded just four goals this season.

The verdict

This is good news for Birmingham in the sense that they have allowed the boss to strengthen his backroom team and it's right they are backing him.

As for Roberts, he arrives with a wealth of experience and the fact he has worked at a high level in his coaching career suggests he is very good at what he does.

So, it will be interesting to see how he does and he will be working with one of the best stoppers in the Championship in Etheridge.
