Birmingham City have confirmed that goalkeeper Michael Luyambula has extended his loan spell with Hungerford Town until the end of the season.

The 19-year-old arrived on a free transfer from German giants Borussia Dortmund in the summer but is not yet ready to be included in Garry Monk's first team squad.

He becomes the sixth player to leave St Andrews this month with Dan Scarr, David Stockdale, Greg Stewart, Luke Maxwell and Nicolai Brock-Madsen all departing on a mixture of permanent deals and loans.

The Blues currently sit in a very promising position with 28 matches played, well clear of relegation trouble despite being a preseason tip for the drop.

They sit comfortably in 11th place and still retain a chance of breaking into the top-six, just seven points behind Derby County who occupy the final play off spot.

Forward Kerim Mrabti is the only new face to arrive at the club so far this season, signing on a free transfer after being released by Swedish side Djurgarden.

The verdict

They are thin on the ground in the goalkeeping department but I still think this makes sense.

Playing first-team football week in week out will be a big help to Luyambula no matter what level it is at and at 19 there is still plenty of time for him to break into the first team.
