Birmingham City have confirmed that right-back Remeao Hutton has signed a new two-year contract with the Championship club.

The 20-year-old is yet to make a first-team appearance for the Blues, but has been an important player for their under-23 side this season.

Birmingham finished 17th in the Championship table this season, twelve points above the relegation zone, after a nine-point deduction from the EFL saw them fall from play-off hopefuls into a battle for survival.

Garry Monk will be looking to considerably strengthen his squad over the summer, as he looks to build a team that can challenge for the play-offs next season, but warned fans last week that his side may struggle to compete with their Championship rivals in the transfer market.

The Verdict:

This is encouraging news for Birmingham City. Hutton is a versatile young player, who can also play at centre-back and in wide midfield.

He is clearly regarded by Birmingham as a player with a lot of potential and has been impressive for the Blues' under-23 side this season.

It seems only a matter of time before he is given a chance in the first-team and he could have a big future ahead of him at St Andrews'.
