Birmingham City are close to signing Bartosz Bialkowski from Ipswich Town, according to reliable journalist Alan Nixon.

Bialkowski has been one of the best goalkeepers in the league for a few seasons now and Birmingham are hoping to bring him to St Andrew's.

This potential deal would cost the Blues £3m but Ipswich want to line up a replacement before letting him leave.

The once-capped Poland international has been with Ipswich since joining from Notts County in 2014, racking up nearly 150 appearances for the club in that time.

Prior to joining the Tractor Boys, the 31-year-old played for Southampton and Barnsley and he has won the Ipswich Player of the Year for three consecutive season.

His arrival will once again cast doubt over the future of David Stockdale, who is a target for Leeds United.

The Verdict

Bialkowski is an excellent goalkeeper at Championship level and would be an asset for Birmingham.

The towering stopper is a proven quality performer at this standard and will help Birmingham rise up the table.

This could open the door for Stockdale's move to Leeds, now that the Whites have opened up a vacancy in goal by offloading Andy Lonergan and Felix Wiedwald.
