Sky Bet Championship side Birmingham City are set to sign Swedish winger Kerim Mrabti on a free transfer, according to reports from HITC Sport.
The 24-year-old has been without a club since his departure from Djurgardens IF, where the wide-man scored six goals in 24 games this season, before being released by the Swedish outfit in November.
The attacker signed for the club from IK Sirius in 2015, scoring 18 goals and producing 14 assists in 77 games for the Swedish club, but now looks poised to join Garry Monk’s Birmingham City on a free transfer, despite attracting the interest of Premier League side Newcastle United in the summer.
The West Midlands club are restricted to signing one player this month due a transfer embargo placed on the club, after breaching Financial Fair Play regulations in the summer.
Monk’s men are currently short of options in their wide areas, with Jota, Jacques Maghoma and Connor Mahoney their only real options out wide this season.
Birmingham currently sit eighth in the Sky Bet Championship table, four points off the play-off places after just two wins in their last seven league games.
Mrabti looks to be a really exciting player on paper, who could be of real use to Birmingham.
The 24-year-old has contributed to plenty of goals over in Sweden, and on a free transfer, is very much a risk-free signing.
Monk needs to ensure that he gets this one spot on, especially with the club only allowed to sign one player this month.
