Birmingham City manager Pep Clotet has given his thoughts on their midweek opposition Barnsley ahead of their midweek clash.

The teams meet on Wednesday night at St. Andrew's but the Blues boss was quick to emphasise the potential threat that Daniel Stendel's side could pose.

"It is one of those nights that it will be great if the players feel their welcome, their help, their strength," Clotet told his pre-match press conference, referring to the home fans, reported by the club's official website.

"It will be a tough game against Barnsley and we will do our utmost to put on a performance and get the points."

Prior to their weekend loss at the City Ground, Birmingham had made an impressive start to the season, beating promotion hopefuls Brentford at Griffin Park before taking a point from Bristol City at St. Andrew's.

They will now be looking to inflict a second defeat on Daniel Stendel's side, who have won one, drawn one and lost one so far this season.

However, the Tykes have a good record against Birmingham, staying unbeaten in their last five clashes, winning three of the last four meetings at St. Andrew's as well.

The verdict

I think Clotet is absolutely right to be wary of the threat Barnsley pose.

The Tykes were excellent on the opening day against Fulham and will still be seething after dropping two points late on against Charlton at the weekend.

But Birmingham too will have reason to put on a show following their convincing weekend defeat and I think this match could be a bit of a thriller.

Both sides still seem to be feeling their way into the season.
