The former Burton Albion manager was poached from the Brewers earlier on in the season, and has done an outstanding job in taking City from 23rd to 11th a game away from the end of the season.

He revealed he was looking to sign four of five real quality players over the off season.

Rowett could face a task in keeping the 14 players out of contract at Birmingham this summer and will also look to keep loan stars Robert Teshe, Diego Fabbrini and Rob Kiernan.

Rowett told the Birmingham Mail: “The plans look great at the moment but when you start talking to players and agents they perhaps don’t look quite so good.

“That’s all we can do. We’ll do our work and do our diligence. We’ll draw up a list of targets, which we’ve already got and we’ll work through those targets.

“Hopefully you get your number one targets in every position but the reality is you start working down that list.

“I think a lot of it is down to getting those targets early. We don’t need lots of players but I think we need four or five real quality players and I think that’s going to be the aim.”

Rowett also revealed that he’d be looking to improve the club off the field as well, such as training and the sports science department.

His side sit in eleventh spot in the Sky Bet Championship having amassed 60 points this season, with only three defeats in their last ten games.
