Birmingham City saw a lot of players join the club over the summer, but it was club-record signing Jota that inevitably gathered the most attention.

The former Brentford man has shown his quality at this level over two spells at Griffin Park, however the Spaniard suffered a hamstring injury in his second game for Blues at Leeds United.

Jota hasn't played since then and has been sorely missed, with his new team struggling for goals and creativity in his absence.

New manager Steve Cotterill is likely to be without the attacker for Friday's game against Cardiff, but his return isn't too far away.

Speaking to the Birmingham Mail, assistant manager Lee Carsley revealed he is expecting a lot from the the 26-year old.

He will create chances from nothing. He's a player that travels with the ball really quickly. I think he's kicked on and he showed (that) in his second spell.”

He always had a goal threat but his goal ration and shots and chances created went up again.”

Jota ended last season with 12 goals and five assists from 19 games.

The Verdict

Jota is undoubtedly one of the best players in the division when on form and Birmingham will hope he can find form very quickly.

He has guaranteed goals and assists whilst at this level and there's no reason he won't continue that when he's back playing for Blues.

Of all the summer signings, he was by far the most exciting and as Carsley says, he will be a key man when fit for Steve Cotterill.
