Birmingham City have announced that David Stockdale, Cheick Keita, and Jefferson Montero will leave the club at the end of June.

The delay to the EFL season has left clubs with decisions to make over the short-term future of some of their players as the 2019/20 campaign could now run late into the summer.

The Championship club revealed earlier this month that Jacques Maghoma and Jonathan Grounds would be leaving St Andrew's when their current deals expire at the end of next month and have now announced three more upcoming exits.

Both Stockdale and Keita will leave the club as free agents when their current contracts expire at the end of June, while the Blues have not extended Montero's loan deal, which is due to run out on the 30th of June.

Stockdale was brought in by Harry Redknapp from Brighton in 2017 and has gone on to make 40 appearances for the Midlands club.

The 34-year-old goalkeeper has spent the majority of the last few seasons out on loan with other clubs.

Keita joined the club in January 2017 but has struggled to make much of an impact for the club, with the left-back featuring just 11 times in total.

Montero arrived on a season-long loan deal on August transfer deadline day and featured 18 times for the Blues, adding no goals and one assist.

The Verdict

It appears Pep Clotet and his coaching staff did not feel the trio would have much to add should the 2019/20 campaign be extended into July or August.

The decision makes a lot of sense for the Blues as they continue to try and mitigate the financial stresses of the current situation.

It follows the news of two other impending player exits earlier in the week, which makes you wonder if more is still to come.
