Birmingham City had an abysmal 2017/18 season, hanging onto their Championship status by the skin of their teeth.

One player who can help them improve on that next season, though, is Jota.

The Spaniard managed to garner five goals and five assists in a side that lacked a clinical edge and he will be a key member of Garry Monk's squad if they are to achieve anything this season coming.

He was brought to St. Andrews at the start of last season from Brentford after the West London club had plucked him from Eibar in 2014.

We take a closer look at winger's main strengths and his most obvious weaknesses.

Let's start with the Spaniard's strengths. His touch and general ball control are Jota's biggest strengths. He is not the fastest, yet when he is face to face with a full-back he manages to find a way past through his quick feet.

It's his adeptness in these tight situations which is most impressive. He keeps a cool head and finds the right pass, no matter how many defenders surround him.

Once through on goal that cool head stays with him, as it does when finishing from distance as well.

However, there are downsides to his play. The main one being that he is very lightweight. When faced with a stronger marker he is often outmuscled far too easily and struggles to find a way to put his stamp on the game.

He is not one to work his socks off defensively either. He likes his position and is not the type to charge back and help out his full-back.

Another branch of this is his refusal to come deep to get his foot on the ball, which often means he can drift in and out of games and struggles to influence proceedings.

It will be fascinating to see how the Spaniard progresses this season coming.
