The 41-year old has imposed the rule after Paul Caddis took his yellow card tally to three for two needless bookings in his last two appearances.

Caddis has been an ever-present for the Blues so far this season, and netted the second in Birmingham's 2-2 draw with Burnley back in August.

The Blues, who have been the surprise package of the Championship this season, aren't blessed with the largest squad and if players pick up suspensions then it will leave the manager short of options.

Rowett, however, he has spoken to his players, particularly Caddis, about the situation, and hopes that his side stop picking up needless yellow cards.

He told the Birmingham Mail: 'I just said if we continue with that we have got to be a little bit careful because I will certainly be handing some pretty hefty fines out if one or two lads keep picking up unnecessary bookings and end up missing a game.

'The cut off is at the end of November so we have just got to be a little bit careful about that. Caddis is an example because it has happened to him twice in the last two games. We have just got to make sure we curtail it.'

If a player picks up five yellow cards before the end November then they will receive a one-match ban. The number of bookings for a ban goes up to ten after this cut-off point.

Birmingham are currently flying in the Sky Bet Championship and they are second in the table, just four points behind leaders Brighton and Hove Albion. They travel to Hull City this afternoon looking to close that gap.
