Birmingham City were brought back down to Earth with a bump yesterday evening as they lost away at Millwall on the Sky live game.

After beating Cardiff City in front of the cameras in Steve Cotterill's first game in charge of the club, many might have felt that the confidence would have been flowing enough to see them win another three points. Indeed, they were playing a Millwall side out of form, too, but the Lions were more than up to the task and got themselves a vital win at The Den.

There's work to do for the men from St. Andrew's still before they can get themselves into the upper half of the table, then, and Steve Cotterill has thrown the gauntlet down to the players in saying there'll be no let up in training. As per the club's Twitter account the manager has said:

There's still plenty of work for the Blues to do this season, then, and though the win over Cardiff showed what they can do, they clearly need to ensure they are up for every game, not just the ones against those leading the way in the league.

That, then, is something Steve Cotterill will need to instill.

The Verdict

Clearly, there is still work to do for the Blues and we should be under no impression that things are going to turn around right away.

Consistency is going to be key this season for them to start climbing the table and their result against Millwall highlights that more than most.
