Birmingham City boss Pep Clotet has heaped praise on young midfielder Jude Bellingham after his performance in the 1-1 draw with Millwall at the weekend.

The 16-year-old has been a regular for Blues since scoring two goals in his first three senior appearances for the club back in late August.

The midfielder has made a total of 16 appearances in all competitions this term, and has formed a solid understanding alongside Ivan Sunjic in the middle of the park.

At the weekend, the teenager produced an excellent performance in both ends of the pitch, and defensively, he seems to be getting better and better game by game.

Going forward, Bellingham has also been given the license to push forward and create chances for his teammates, and he is beginning to establish himself as one of the most promising, talented youngsters in the second tier.

Via the Birmingham Mail, Clotet hailed Bellingham for his performance at the weekend, insisting that the sky is the limit for the homegrown star.

He said: "You never know how the future is going to be of course but I am seeing a different Jude than before.

"Against Sheffield Wednesday I think he made a massive step forward, then to recover against Millwall I felt he managed the game very well physically.

"The fact we had to replace a centre back didn’t allow us much room to use our bench but I think Jude did the job with intensity, in defence and helping Ivan as well - and he gets to dangerous areas more and more and more.

"I think he is making a lot of steps in the right direction - and I hope he keep developing because at the minute I don’t see his ceiling."

After their 1-1 draw with Gary Rowett's side on Saturday, Birmingham occupy 15th spot in the Sky Bet Championship table having tied their last three games 1-1.

The Verdict

Bellingham is such a talent and he is such a mature player - it's quite hard to believe that he is only 16 years of age.

He was always going to be good at going forward, but he is getting better and defence and is reading the game really well at the moment.

I'm very surprised that a Premier League club haven't been linked with his signature yet as he has such a large amount of potential.
