Steve Cotterill is gearing up for his first match as Birmingham City manager when they take on top of the table Cardiff City tomorrow.

The game is live on the Sky Sports cameras and is sure to be a massive test for Blues who are coming off the back of an embarrassing 6-1 defeat at Hull City.

That loss, combined with the change in manager and you'd forgive Birmingham players if their confidence was low.

However, Cotterill is delighted with the way his side have accepted his training methods as he begins his reign as manager.

I am happy with their response for sure. They have been excellent, they really have. They are in good spirits, we got a lot of work done last week and a fair bit done this week as well,” he told the official site.

The ex-Bristol City boss is keen for his players to forget what has gone on before.

It's all about positivity. We have been positive from the word go on the Monday morning when I started after Hull City. That's what I have tried to do, focus on all the positives and the good things that we have got going for us rather than dragging up the negatives.”

The Verdict

It's a very challenging start for Steve Cotterill who sees his side play Cardiff, Millwall away and then Aston Villa.

He is known for creating a good atmosphere within the players at the club's he's worked for and will be determined to do the same here.

Ultimately, results will dictate the mood around the club and they need changing as soon as possible.
