Ipswich and Millwall go head to head in battle to loan in Championship player

Bolton Wanderers goalkeeper Ben Amos is wanted on loan by Millwall and Ipswich Town, according to a reliable football journalist.

Alan Nixon reports that the Championship pair are considering a swoop to land Amos on a temporary deal.

Amos impressed on loan at League One side Charlton Athletic last season and is now a target for Ipswich and Millwall.

Birmingham City are trying to offload David Stockdale and Tomasz Kuszczak to bring in new goalkeepers instead and Nixon reports that Birmingham are close to signing Ipswich Town star Bartosz Bialkowski for £3m.

Millwall’s top choice is Jordan Archer but they want competition ahead of another promotion push.

Amos is surplus to requirements at Bolton but is likely to head out on loan again next season after spending two years away from the club on temporary stints.

The former Manchester United academy product was at Cardiff City the year before but struggled to make his mark in South Wales.

Now the 28-year-old could head off again with Bolton ready to loan him out.

The Verdict

Amos would be a reasonable choice for Ipswich but he is not as good as Bialkowski has been.

As for Millwall, they probably need the competition with Archer after a few errors crept into his game last term.

Amos is a decent goalkeeper and things haven’t worked out for him at Bolton, but he is getting his career back on track now.
