Championship sides Birmingham City and Derby County are haggling over the valuation of Scottish winger Johnny Russell, according to respected journalist Alan Nixon.

Earlier in the week, reports suggested that Gianfranco Zola and Birmingham City were interested in signing Derby County winger Johnny Russell.

Russell's future is in jeopardy at Derby County looking at Bakary Sako and other potential wingers to bring in, as Steve McClaren has identified the wide positions as an area that requires improvement.

Potentially a new arrival could see Johnny Russell fall down the pecking order at Derby and instead, Russell may look elsewhere where he can be guaranteed first team action.

Fellow Championship side Birmingham City are leading the chase and have already opened negotiations with Derby County about a potential move.

However, it appears that the negotiations haven't progressed far as the two clubs have yet to agree on a valuation for the 26-year-old winger, until then, it could be a frustrating saga for all the parties involved.

Birmingham and Derby fans, what do you make of the news? Do you expect this deal to happen in this window? How much do you think Johnny Russell is worth? Would Russell be better off staying at Derby or leaving to join Birmingham? Which side will be getting the better deal if it does go through?
