Lyall Thomas, the assistant news editor at Sky Sports News, has revealed that Birmingham have agreed on a deal with Brentford FC to sign centre back Harlee Dean for around £2 million.

The 26-year-old club captain has just one year remaining on his contract at Griffin Park which sparked interest from Harry Redknapp’s Birmingham.

Dean joined the Bees back in 2012 on a free transfer from Southampton and has since become one of Brentford’s most important players.

The towering centre back picked up the supporter’s player of the year award for his contribution to the 2016/17 campaign which saw Brentford finish in the top ten for the third consecutive season.

Once this deal is completed Dean will become Harry Redknapp’s 13th signing of what has proved to be a very busy summer transfer window.

The Verdict

Both Brentford and Birmingham are struggling at the moment.

Just four points from five games for the Blues with the Bees not doing much better sat in 23rd place after no wins and just two draws from their opening five games too.

Here at FLW, this doesn’t seem like a case of Dean joining an already better-established team but more so the player joining a work in progress.

Redknapp has brought in a lot of new players and clearly has a vision of where he wants to take the club and whilst that isn’t working now, the Blues have more chance of getting out of the Championship than Brentford do.

Dean can be the sort of player to give a massive boost to a team on and off the pitch so for £2 million, Birmingham have got themselves a bargain.
