Sheffield United booked their spot in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup as they ran out narrow 2-1 winners over Championship side Reading at the Madejski Stadium on Tuesday.

The Blades took the lead on the night after just two minutes, when David McGoldrick headed home after being unmarked in the penalty area.

But the home side responded with George Puscas firing home from the penalty spot after Andy Rinomhota was brought down shortly before half-time.

But second-half substitute Billy Sharp netted the winner late into the first-half of extra time on the night, as the Blades held on to secure the win.

Speaking in an interview (quotes sourced from The Star) after the win over the Royals, Sharp admitted that he is keen to see local rivals Sheffield Wednesday beat Manchester City on Wednesday evening, as he wants to take on the Owls in the next round of the competition.

"Hopefully Wednesday beat City and we can get them! There are some big teams still in it.

"But we fancy our chances against anyone. In the Premier League, whoever we have come up against we have given them a game. We believe we can do a job and get a win against anyone."

The Verdict:

I'm not sure he'll be that confident that they can pick up a win against Manchester City!

Sharp certainly made a positive impact against Reading in their recent win in the FA Cup, and he'll be hoping he can build on this impressive showing for the remainder of the season.

Plenty of Sheffield United fans will be hoping that their local rivals can pull of an upset against Pep Guardiola's side, but they need to be realistic in their expectations.

The Owls only have one win in their last eight league games, and I can't see them coming away with anything to show for their efforts against Manchester City on Wednesday evening.
