Charlton Athletic have today confirmed the signing of defender Andre Bikey on a free transfer.
The former Reading, Burnley and Middlesbrough centre-back has penned a two-year deal at the Valley. Bikey had been on trial with Charlton during the club’s pre-season tour of Belgium.
Speaking to the club’s website, manager Bob Peeters revealed his delight at snapping up the experienced centre-back. “He made a very good impression with us in Belgium,”
“He’s got experience of this league and we’re very happy to sign him.
“It’s important for people like Joe Gomez and Harry Lennon to be working with someone with his experience – they can learn from him.
“His knowledge of the Championship will be very important,”
Bikey returns to England after a season with Greek Superleague side Panetolikos. The 29 year-old made 23 league appearances in 2013/14, scoring twice.
He becomes new manager Bob Peeters’ fourth new signing of the summer, joining midfielders Yoni Buyens and Franck Moussa as well as forward Igor Vetokele at the Valley. The former Cameroon international is expected to feature in Charlton’s upcoming pre-season friendly against Conference Premier side Welling United.
