Leeds United may be back in play-off contention following a return to form in recent weeks, but changes are certainly needed in January if the club are to launch a sustained promotion bid.

Leeds are closing in on the signing of Japanese international Yosuke Ideguchi, with the player set to join the club from Gamba Osaka next month, in a move which marks the club's intentions to secure top talent from across the globe in their bid to become an international brand.

However due to work permits complications, the player will be immediately sent on-loan to a foreign club, and is unlikely to make his Leeds debut until at least next season.

Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Phil Hay praised the transfer on Twitter, but expressed his concerns that the squad is in need of a boost immediately.

Leeds lost their way for a long period this season, and boss Thomas Christiansen cannot allow his side to waiver again if a sustained promotion bid is to materialise.
