Preston North End are unlikely to cash-in on defender Ben Davies in the January transfer window, despite his contract being set to expire in the summer of 2021 according to Football Insider.
Davies has been the subject of considerable transfer interest from Celtic, West Ham and Sheffield United in recent months, although a move to either club has failed to materialise for one reason or another.
Celtic were previously believed to be keen on a pre-contract deal to land Davies’ signature, although no agreement has been reached as of yet.
Football Insider have claimed that Preston have offered Davies a new contract with the club, but the defender is keeping his options open ahead of the New Year.
The 25-year-old hasn’t featured as much this season due to injury, but has made five appearances in all competitions for Alex Neil’s side.
North End are currently sat 15th in the Championship table after their opening 13 matches of this year’s campaign, and will be eager to mount a serious push for a top-six finish.
Davies and his Preston North End team-mates are set to return to action this weekend, when they take on promotion-chasing Watford, in what is certain to be a tricky test at Vicarage Road.
Can you score full marks in this 19-question quiz about these former Preston strikers?
I’m surprised by their reported transfer stance.
Davies has been brilliant for Preston over the years, and I’m not surprised to hear that he’s attracting interest from other clubs heading into the January transfer window.
Preston should surely consider cashing-in on him during the winter transfer window, as he’s far too good of a player to lose on a free transfer at the end of this year’s campaign.
They’d be making a huge mistake in not accepting an offer for his services, as I’d be stunned if he stuck around at Deepdale beyond the 2020/21 season.
