West Bromwich Albion are reportedly still interested in £8 million-rated Liverpool striker Taiwo Awoniyi, which has drawn an interesting response from many Baggies fans.
New Albion boss Valerien Ismael made midfielder Alex Mowatt the first signing of his Hawthorns tenure last week and you’d expect there will be a fair few more players through the door before the end of the summer window.
It appears Awoniyi could be among them, with Goal reporting that Albion have enquired about the 23-year-old but face competition from Championship rivals Stoke City and German side Mainz.
Despite joining Liverpool six years ago, the forward has just qualified for a UK work permit and the Anfield outfit are understood to want around £8 million for him this summer – with two years still left on his current contract.
The Nigerian striker spent last season out on loan with Bundesliga side Union Berlin – scoring five times and adding four assists in 22 appearances.
With Charlie Austin, Hal Robson-Kanu, Mbaye Diagne all having left the club, Albion do look short of options in forward areas ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

The links to Awoniyi has drawn a mixed reaction from Baggies fans, many of whom took to Twitter to voice their thoughts…
Never heard of him but I am really happy to see us linked with these types of names – young hungry rough diamonds… we do it best when we get these sorts rather than the older big names coming for pay slips! I think this is a good sign

Seems steep for a player that's only just got a permit to work in the UK so hasn't played in any of the English leagues. I think he scored 8 in 21 games in Germany. £5m max for me considering his inexperience, age on his side however. Big risk at £8m personally. In Val we trust?

I agree it’s a big risk mate, but Daryl Dike who played under Val last season had similar stats in the mls the year before, 9/19 games. Both young, both reasonably tall. Personally I wouldn’t want to sign him but in Val we trust🔵⚪️

Loan maybe but 8m seems a bit steep tbh..
