There's so many sides in the Championship that used to be in the Premier League at the moment that it can be hard to believe so many have fallen down the leagues.

But, whilst the likes of Leeds United and Aston Villa are the sides that most think of when considering those working their way back, Barnsley have also looked to underline their determination to get back to the top flight.

The Tykes have been away for some time but have some good young players and a decent manager in Paul Heckingbottom and, now, they've got the financial clout to really start making progress.

Indeed, the club has revealed today that they have got a new billionaire Chinese owner that could suddenly propel them towards the Premier League if it all goes well:

Of course, there's always a risk involved with such deals and fans will point out that sometimes it doesn't work but at other times it really does.

If the owners are like Wolves' owners, Tykes fans really could have a journey ahead of them that takes them back to the Premier League.

First of all, though, they need to address their current form and avoid getting into a relegation scrap.

The Verdict

Barnsley fans should be rightly excited.

This is great news for their club and certainly secures their future whilst it could transform them. Let's hope the owners are the right people for them.
