Middlesbrough begin their campaign with a tough game against Millwall tomorrow, as they look to win promotion following play-off heartbreak last season.

Tony Pulis' men came up short a few months ago, losing to Aston Villa over two legs in what was a disappointing way to end to the season.

However, there has been a lot of changes at the Riverside in the meantime - and there could be a lot more transfer activity before the deadline.

Boro head to The Den with the futures of key players Adama Traore and Ben Gibson up in the air, whilst Pulis will also want to add to his squad too.

When you add in a few injury problems to important players, tomorrow could be a different looking Boro XI to one that plays for the remainder of the campaign.

Here we look at the side Pulis should play against Millwall...

The Ireland international is a reliable stopper at this level and will be the number one this season.

The former Birmingham man came back into favour under Pulis who appreciates his defensive ability. That physicality and aggression could be vital against a strong, direct Millwall side.

The towering centre-back joined from Bristol City in an eye-catching move and is set to be a key player this season for Boro.

With doubts about Gibson's future following Burnley's bid, Pulis could turn to youngster Fry to replace the left-footed defender.

Friend has been a regular over the years for Boro and will be once again this season.

The former Leeds man will have a crucial role to play, breaking up the play and picking up second balls.

Another former Whites player, Howson will be given license to get forward and will have to bridge the gap between midfield and attack.

With Paddy McNair set to miss out, Pulis is sure to turn to the experienced Leadbitter in what could be a feisty encounter.

Adama Traore dislocated a shoulder last week and with Wolves chasing the player too it seems highly unlikely he will play.

Therefore, Braithwaite will get a chance to impress and needs to be a key creative outlet from the right.

Some would argue the experienced winger should not be in the team, with youngster Harry Chapman a much more exciting option.

Yet, it seems unlikely Pulis would make such a chance, so expect Downing to start.

Following the sale of Patrick Bamford and doubts over Rudy Gestede's fitness, Assombalonga is sure to start and will need a big performance to convince Pulis he can be the number nine for the season.
