‘Big mistake’, ‘Good decision’ – How many Ipswich fans reacted to 2018 player departure – But was this a good move?

There isn’t much to cheer about for Ipswich Town supporters this season, with Paul Lambert’s squad looking void of ideas going forward.

They could certainly have benefited from having a number of their former players involved this season as they battle to retain their Championship status.

One player who could have made the difference in their fight to survive is former defender, Adam Webster.

Webster departed the club in favour of a joining Bristol City in 2018.

See how Ipswich supporters reacted to his departure at the time below.

Webster signed for the Robins for a fee believed to be in the region of £3.5m and has gone on to become a regular in Lee Johnson’s side as they battle for promotion to the Premier League this season.

At the age of 24, the centre-back has many more years ahead of him, and probably hasn’t hit his peak as of yet.

But Ipswich supporters had every right to be frustrated, with Webster being one of their key players.

He’s the type of player that the Tractor Boys have been crying out for this season and could have been the difference between staying in the Championship, or facing relegation to League One.

But Ipswich don’t have time to dwell on his departure, as they are in serious trouble this season and supporters will be fearing the worst if they are to be relegated by the end of this year’s league campaign.

You have to feel that the decision to allow Webster to leave the club will be a notable mistake, as he could have played a significant role in this Ipswich team in this year’s campaign.
