Sheffield United have received a massive boost in their pursuit of Bournemouth striker Jermain Defoe.

The Blades are known admirers of the England international, and are thought to be monitoring his situation with a view to making a move for the experienced ace in January.

And United have received a further boost to their hopes of landing Defoe, with the striker admitting he is open to leaving the Cherries in the January transfer window as he goes in search of first team football.

According to the Mirror, Defoe is keen to explore the option of making a move away from the Vitality in January, with chances of first team football being few and far between under Eddie Howe, who has Callum Wilson in the form of his life and Josh King back in the XI.

Defoe is still hoping he has something to offer to a host of clubs, and the Blades are keen to add a new striker to their ranks as they look to maintain their promotion push heading into the new year.

The Verdict

Defoe would be a superb addition for United, and this is a further boost for Chris Wilder.

The England man is clearly still wanting to play first team football, and he would certainly get that at Sheffield United, even though Billy Sharp and David McGoldrick are in fine form.

If Defoe does move, he'll be a huge boost for United.
