Exeter City have been in superb form this season, with the Grecians having picked up 23 points from a possible 36 up for grabs, thus putting them second in the table after 12 games played, in what has been a great start to the campaign for Matt Taylor's side.

The Devonshire based side picked up yet another impressive result as they picked up a point away at fellow high-flying League Two side Crewe Alexandra as they drew one apiece at Gresty Road after Chuma Anene's strike denied the Grecians all three points after Dean Moxey had given Taylor's side the lead in just the second minute of the game.

The result continued the club's strong run of form, with City having only lost one game in their last four league outings as they seek to be in and amongst the promotion race this season, be it via the playoffs or automatic promotion.

However, despite their impressive result, Exeter were dealt a big blow ahead of their tie this Saturday with Forest Green Rovers as the club announced today via their official website that influential goalkeeper Lewis Ward has suffered a broken arm following an incident in the late stages of the contest against Crewe.

With the club stating the following via their statement:

"An X-ray after the match confirmed that Lewis has fractured his Ulna, however at this stage it is not known how long Lewis will be out for."

The Verdict

This news will come as a blow for the Grecians, with Ward being amongst the best performers for the club this season, keeping five clean sheets in 12 league games this term.

Taylor will now be looking for his back up goalkeeper, Jonny Maxted, to step in for Ward's absence and look to maintain what has been a relatively tight City backline so far this campaign, with the Grecians having only conceded eleven goals so far this season.

It remains to be seen how long Ward will be out for, but ones things for sure, this could prove to be a major spanner in the works for the club's promotion hopes, particularly after Ward playing in all of the club's league games so far this campaign.
