Pablo Hernandez has played down concerns over his injuries, with the influential Leeds United attacker claiming that he feels like he is in good condition after a recent spell on the sidelines.

Leeds’ start to the season under Marcelo Bielsa has been impressive, with Hernandez key to how the Argentine wants the Whites to play.

The 33-year-old has scored four goals and registered four assists this season, with Leeds yet to lose a game in which Hernandez has started.

Bielsa was without Hernandez for over a month earlier in the season, with Leeds’ form dipping during that time.

With the age he is at, nobody is expecting Hernandez to feature in every game across a 46-game season, but the Spaniard has missed seven of Leeds’ 16 fixtures so far this season, which has led to the player receiving questions over his fitness.

Hernandez has discussed his age and fitness levels with the Yorkshire Evening Post, he said: “Of course I know my age but I try to push every day in the training and not only in the training ground in my life, I eat good food, have good rest but it's not the same as when I was 23-24 years.

“But I feel good, I feel young and I try to keep this moment for now, the next game and the next year - why not?"

Leeds welcomed Hernandez back in their defeat to Blackburn Rovers last month, with the midfielder stepping off the bench.

Since then he’s come back into the starting line-up, helping Leeds to seven points from a possible nine.

The Whites are looking to continue their good form against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday evening.

The Verdict

Hernandez clearly knows his limits and is looking after himself, which is great to hear.

Leeds need the Spaniard, and although he won’t be available every week, when he is, they need him firing.

So far this season he has done that, and if Leeds are to secure promotion, him continuing to do that will be key.
