Marcelo Bielsa has revealed why he withdrew Leeds United winger Ezgjan Alioski at half-time during his side's 2-2 draw at Swansea City on Tuesday night.

The Leeds number 10 was replaced by loan signing Jack Harrison to a few bemused faces in the away end of the Liberty Stadium.

But Bielsa gave his reasoning for the substitution in his post-match press conference explaining that the change was purely tactical.

"We were not playing deep enough on the left," the Argentinian explained.

"Our offensive play was better on the right than on the left so I thought we needed to put some oxygen on this sector."

Kemar Roofe continued his fine goalscoring form as he scored his fourth of the season to make the score 1-1 and cancel out Oli McBurnie's opener just before half-time, tapping home a Jamie Shackleton cross.

Former Swan Pablo Hernandez dragged the Whites level again after the home side had retaken the lead through McBurnie.

The Spaniard finished cooly but showed little celebration against his former club after Patrick Bamford had broken beyond the defence to provide the cross.

The verdict

This will be a relief to Leeds fans for two reasons.

Firstly, it shows Alioski is not injured and can continue to play a part this season having impressed in their opening games.

And secondly, it shows Bielsa's ruthless attention to detail. The fact he was not afraid to change things, even though his side had scored just before the break, will stand Leeds in very good stead.
