Marcelo Bielsa has confirmed that there is nothing new to report in Leeds United’s quest to sign players before the end of the month.

The window to sign players permanently was closed earlier in August, but EFL clubs are still allowed to add players on a temporary basis until the end of the month.

However, Bielsa has provided an update to Phil Hay at the Yorkshire Evening Post today, confirming that there is nothing new to report at Elland Road.

Leeds are expected to complete one or two deals before the end of the month, with just under two weeks of the window remaining.

Earlier in the summer, Leeds were linked with a move for Matthew Pennington, who spent last season on loan at Elland Road from Everton.

The YEP confirmed that an offer was on the table for the centre-back, but Everton had doubts over sending Pennington back to Elland Road due to the lack of game time he might get under Bielsa.

So far, Liam Cooper and Gaetano Berardi have been Leeds’ centre-back pairing in the Championship, with Pontus Jansson providing cover from the bench.

Luke Ayling also filled in alongside Jansson against Bolton Wanderers in the Carabao Cup.

The Verdict

Time is ticking away for Leeds this month, and if they are going to make additions, they need to be done sooner rather than later.

Currently, Leeds are doing well in the Championship, but they are only a handful of injuries away from a crisis, which will worry Bielsa.
