Leeds United have announced further plans for their pre-season tour of Australia ahead of the 2019/2020 season, where Leeds could potentially be a Premier League club by that time.
The Whites announced on their official website that they will face Western Sydney Wanderers Saturday 20th July 2019, in a game which will be historic for the Australian side.
It will be Western Sydney Wanderers’ first game in their new 30,000 seater stadium and Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa is relishing the prospect of playing in a brand new stadium whilst on their pre-season tour.
“To play in the first international sporting event at the new Western Sydney Stadium will be an honour and we are all looking forward to the occasion.”
Leeds United CEO Angus Kinnear is expecting a large number of Leeds supporters to be in attendance for the historic trip to Australia.
“The large number of Leeds fans based in Australia has only been reinforced since the announcement of the tour last week and we’re really pleased to be playing in Sydney, giving further opportunities for supporters to see the first team in action.”
The news comes after Leeds also announced that they were to play bitter rivals, Manchester United in their 2019/2020 pre-season campaign.
It’s another exciting fixture that Leeds fans will have to look forward to.
There’s no doubting that Manchester United will pose more of a threat compared to Western Sydney Wanderers, but in a new stadium, in front of what is likely to be a capacity crowd, the Australian side will fancy their chances.
Leeds supporters will be hoping that they will be in the Premier League by when pre-season comes around, with Marcelo Bielsa’s side staking a strong claim for a promotion place this season.
If the Whites can build on their impressive start to the season, then they will be one of the most feared teams going forward in this years campaign.
