Bid Rejected: Reading FC knocked back in bid for talented defender

Published

Reading FC have had a bid rejected by Southend United for their left back Ben Coker, according to Sports Journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The 27-year-old left back appeared 45 times for the League One side and helped steer them away from a relegation battle.

Coker, who also suffers from type 1 diabetes, has seen his performances attract the attention of the Berkshire side, who are looking to bolster their defence ahead of the new season.

The defender currently has three years left on his contract at Roots Hall, but it remains to be seen whether the Royals will come back in for the left back with an improved bid.

The left back underwent surgery at the start of the month to cure a persistent groin problem and is expected to be in the treatment room throughout July.

If Reading continues their pursuit of the left back, they would have to wait for the defender to recover in order to pass a medical.

Reading fans… What do you think of the news? Are you aware of Coker’s abilities? Would he improve your defence? Let us know in your thoughts and opinions below!
