Bristol City are considering an approach for young West Ham striker Cai Corbett after the 17-year-old spent time on trial with The Robins last week.

According to The Athletic, Corbett impressed the club's coaches during an under-23's match with Queens Park Rangers last week with manager Lee Johnson at the match as well to keep an eye on the youngster and will decide whether to bid in the coming days.

Corbett has netted around 150 goals during his three years in the Hammers' youth teams but is also capable of playing out wide or in attacking midfield, as well as up-front.

QUIZ: Can you guess what these 14 ex-Bristol City men are up to now?

Bristol City are eager to bolster their attacking options during the current transfer window with frustrations growing among fans at the lack of goals in the team.

However, it is very unlikely that Corbett would be introduced to the first-team set-up immediately and would most likely have to earn his spot in the under-23's to begin with.

Burnley's Nahki Wells appears to be their top target with the club hopeful of landing the marksman on a permanent deal if he is recalled from his loan spell with QPR.

The verdict

It may not solve their immediate problems but Corbett seems like a very good signing for the club.

His record in the West Ham United academy is quie brilliant and the fact that he is willing to step down a tier in order to increase his chances of getting first-team football is a definite positive as well.

The club cannot lose focus now, however. A first-team striker is still badly needed and ultimately needs to be sorted as soon as possible if the club expect to be back in the play-offs soon.
