Middlesbrough are closing in on the signing of Sammy Ameobi, sources have exclusively told Football League World.
The 29-year-old’s is on the lookout for a new club after leaving Nottingham Forest upon the expiry of his contract, after making 81 appearances for the Reds.
Ameobi, who scored three goals for Forest last season, is now available to sign on a free transfer, with Boro now understood to be closing in on the winger.
Quiz: What was the score the last time Middlesbrough played each of these 25 teams?
Football League World have exclusively been told that a move to the Riverside is in the offing for Ameobi, with Boro set to win the race for the powerful attacker, who has also been linked with Birmingham.
Ameobi is no stranger to the North East and Middlesbrough in particular, having joined the club on loan from Newcastle United in February 2013.
Eight years later, he looks set to return to the club aiming to make an impression in the Championship, after a largely impressive two years at Forest.
Boro are in the market for attacking reinforcements, with Marvin Johnson and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing leaving the Riverside at the end of last season.
Here, we take a look at how fans reacted to the latest news…
Lots of "good option" type comments, which would be true if he wasn't the only option. Heading nowhere with signings like this.

Decent start I'd say, love that they just snuck this one in without much chatter.

Sammy Ameobi is a just fun signing for me
Don’t really expect much from him but he does have the potential to win games on his own when he turns up
Either way it’s going to be entertaining to watch 😁⚽️🔴

Better than what we’ve got I suppose

I'm happy with that, he's a better player than he's given credit for and many forest fans will tell you they'd gladly have kept him
