Kalvin Phillips has been in immense form for Leeds United since the arrival of Marcelo Bielsa, with many tipping him for an England call-up in the not too distant future.

The academy graduate has seen his role in the Whites’ midfield evolve since he made his debut back in the 2014/15 season. He has gone from a combative box-to-box midfielder to a goalscoring attacking midfielder, to now playing almost in a ‘quarter-back’ role under Bielsa.

Leeds have seen their promotion prospects boost across the board with far better output coming from every player under the Argentine, no more so than Phillips who is now arguably the most important player to their team as they push for automatic promotion.

His influence on the team has been exemplified when he is absent through suspension, as he was following his straight red card against QPR last month.

Serving a three-match ban, Phillips missed a win over Millwall and then defeats to Wigan Athletic and Nottingham Forest, where it was glaring how much weaker Leeds were in holding midfield without him, along with other positions weakening as players plugged gaps.

His return against Brentford and follow-up against Bristol City highlighted his talent as Leeds put their poor form and performances to rest with a draw and a win.

There have now been calls from the Second Tier Podcast for him to be considered for the England squad over the likes of West Ham midfielder Declan Rice.

It’s a position that is lacking top quality for the Three Lions and question marks over who should play there are growing as Rice’s and West Ham’s inconsistencies cast further doubt over whether he’s the right man for the role.

This tweet sparked discussion from fans about whether Phillips is deserving of a place in Gareth Southgate’s plans, and if not, the other players who should be considered too...

Can you guess the nationality of these Leeds players?
