Bradford City were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Grimsby Town on Saturday afternoon in Stuart McCall’s first game since taking over for the third time.

The Bantams had been in poor form before the departure of Gary Bowyer, losing three straight league games in a woeful run that saw them slip from the automatic promotion picture to outside the play-off places.

Stuart McCall came in to replace Bowyer for his third permanent spell in charge of the club, having previously departed in 2018 and instantly lifted the spirits of the club with fans much more buoyant about the rest of the season.

Bradford came into the weekend facing Grimsby Town at the Utilita Energy Stadium looking to climb back into the play-off places and looked on course to do so when they dominated the spread of chances throughout the match, more so in the second half.

They looked to have done enough for victory when Callum Cooke’s strike from outside the box was diverted in by new signing Lee Novak in the 80th-minute, however, they were pegged back in stoppage time when Luke Hendrie fired in at the back post to snatch a point from McCall’s side.

Grimsby nearly snatched a late winner too following a set-piece scramble but the danger was cleared and both sides had to settle for a point, keeping Bradford outside the play-offs on goal difference, but having played two games extra.

With the late equaliser being a bitter pill to swallow, the fans obviously might have not been in the highest spirits, despite looking like doing enough for the win.

The question was put to a Bradford City fans group on Facebook, here are some of the responses…

Now the dust has settled, what are everyone’s thoughts on our first game under McCall?

Tom Nelson II “TRASH.”

Stephen Slator “Brilliant!”

How much do you know about Bradford's new signings?

Stephen Reid “Better than previously. Players seemed to enjoy themselves out there.”

Stephen Brooks “Despite it being better entertainment, we only managed to grab a draw from the jaws of victory! The only thing that really matters was we didn't win, and that's what we need now - and lots of 'em, probably a minimum of 10 wins if we want that 3rd place!

"The frustrating thing about Saturday is we looked so comfortable after we scored, and then just went to pieces in stoppage time, to such an extent we nearly threw 3 points away, not 2. Mind you we did bring Akpan on, that'll explain it!"

Jay Lee Allsopp “At least he played the players in their right positions. Best game I’ve seen Jake reeves have by far. When we hurt, Stuart hurts too. Pride, passion, belief, and not boring to watch. We just switched off in final mins, and not in the full 90 #BOREYER!”

Lawrence Dyton “Stop moaning stop being negative we are in a better place now with Stuart.”

Viv Dewhirst “Promising, better attacking and positive.”
