It’s been a hugely impressive start to the season from Leeds United, who under Marcelo Bielsa are beginning to look like a really strong side.

Bielsa has Leeds playing in a fluid system, with Kalvin Phillips absolutely key to that in a holding midfield role.

The 22-year-old is playing deep enough to be classed as a third centre-back, with Leeds’ transition from defence to attack often passing through the youngster.

In the Championship, Phillips was outstanding against Stoke City and Derby County, with Bielsa once again building a much-changed side around the midfielder last night in the Carabao Cup.

Phillips produced another assured performance against Bolton Wanderers, as Leeds progressed to the second-round with a 2-1 victory.

Over the course of his time in Leeds’ first-team, Phillips has divided opinion, but finally, under Bielsa, he looks like becoming one of the first names on the teamsheet.
